Join us for a talk by Allan Mazur of Syracuse University about how climate change is perceived in the media and by the public. The scientifically assessed threat of climate change has become more dire since 1988, when it first became a public concern. However news coverage of climate, and public concern about it, are variable.  We will trace the fickle nature of news coverage and public concern, even as objective warming continues to worsen.

Dr. Allan Mazur is professor of public affairs in the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.  He is a sociologist and engineer. He has authored or coauthored over 150 academic articles and eight books, most recently Implausible Beliefs in the Bible, Astrology & UFOs.  Mazur does research on social aspects of science, technology and environment; and on biological aspects of sociology. He lectures on topics such as: Religion, Sociology and Anthropology, the paranormal, and fringe-science claims.
